Modern Day Düsseldorf |
Düsseldorf was founded during the Roman Empire in the 7th and 8th centuries, farming settlements settled along the Rhine, these villages were going to become what we now know as Düsseldorf. Later, in 1288, the village was elevated to city status, but a war broke out on who would control it, until the Bergs controlled it. In the 14th century, it making a market central, open for vast trading opportunities. In WWII, Düsseldorf sustained heavy damage from allied bombings, but underwent repairs after the war was over and when Germany's economy recovered. Now it has thrived into a metropolis, high in business and marketing, kind of like Pittsburgh that is not hooked on the Stealers. Today, Düsseldorf has a high standard of living, and if citizens recommend a place to live in Germany, Düsseldorf would definitely be high on their list. New word: Wohlleben, which means "good living" or "good life".
